Hrana Janto is an artist long inhabiting the realms of History, Fantasy, Myth and The Sacred. Raised and abetted by artist-parents (Phyllis and Martin Janto), she graduated from the High School of Art and Design and received a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union in New York City. She then studied at the School of Sacred Arts while starting her career as a professional Artist and Illustrator. Painting Goddesses and Mythology has been an ongoing passion. Her commissioned works include historical paintings for the PBS series Bill Moyers' "Joseph Campbell and The Power of Myth," numerous book covers (including the Chelsea House series "Monsters of Mythology"), the 1992 and '93 "The Goddess" and '94 and '95 "Myth and Magic" calendars for Llewellyn Publications including The 2001 Goddess Calendar, and internationally published "The Goddess Oracle" deck with Element Books/HarperCollins. Her work has also appeared in the NY Daily News magazine and a Miramax movie poster. Most recently, Hrana did the book cover and 50 pencil drawings for "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Tantric Sex" from Alpha Books. Children's Illustration is another focus. Hrana has painted for a multitude of publishers including Cricket magazine, Macmillan/McGraw Hill, Silver Burdett and Ginn, and Simon and Schuster. She illustrated "King For A Day" by Meish Goldish, a small book for Scott Foresman/Pearson. Hrana is a member of the Society of Childrens Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI), and the Graphic Artists Guild (GAG). She also paints portraits and privately commissioned works. Hrana has exhibited throughout the country, including pieces at the Books of Wonder Gallery and a Society of Illustrators show. Her works are currently shown through the Elizabeth Stone Gallery in Birmingham, MI. Hrana lives, paints, and dances in New York state.
